We’ll continue to progress – Morocco’s Yassir Zabiri ahead of U20 World Cup quarterfinal clash

Young Morocco attacker Yassir Zabiri says his outfit will continue to progress as they gear up for the quartefinal clash against USA at the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup tournament.

The forward, who plies his trade for Portuguese outfit Famalicao delivered a standout performance as Morocco inflicted a 2-1 win over South Korea to advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament, being held in Chile.

The 20-year-old was adjudged the man-of-the-match after exhibiting a top-class performance to propel his outfit to victory.

Speaking after the game, Zabiri expressed gratitude his teammates for the support, while promising do more for his country at the tournament.

“I thank my family and the Moroccan people who are always with us, who support us. I thank them for their prayers and their support, because they always motivate us to continue moving forward. Also, our entire team, the entire group, helped me a lot to play well, and Inshallah, we will continue to progress. I hope to do even more and accomplish even more,” the Marrakech native told FIFA+.

The Lionceaux’s centre-forward scored the first goal with an acrobatic overhead kick that was deflected off a Korean defender into his own goal in the 8th minute. Zabiri has three goals since the start of the U20 World Cup, making him third in the goalscoring charts.

The young Atlas Lions will face the USA in the quarter-finals on Sunday, as they continue their impressive run in South America.
