U20 World Cup: Senegal fails to advance to the last 16
Senegal Eliminated from U20 World Cup, Zambia Remains Africa’s Hope
Disappointment struck Senegal on Thursday at the 2017 U20 World Cup in South Korea, as the Lion Cubs of Teranga were eliminated in the round of 16. With their exit, Zambia now remains Africa’s sole representative in the competition.
In a tightly contested match, both teams went into halftime locked at 0-0. Even after the break, defensive solidity continued to dominate, preventing either side from breaking the deadlock. However, a decisive coaching intervention from Mexico paid off late in the game. Ronaldo Cisneros, who had just entered the field, scored the lone goal in the 89th minute, ending Senegal’s hopes of progressing further.
Senegal’s exit marks the end of their campaign, while Mexico will now face England in the quarterfinals. African fans will turn their attention to Zambia, who await their next opponent following the outcome of the France-Italy tie.
