Senegalese defender Bouna Sarr eyes return to action after 16 months without a club
Senegalese defender Bouna Sarr is determined to reignite his professional career after spending more than 16 months without a club.
The experienced right-back, who last played for FC Bayern Munich, has endured a difficult spell marked by persistent injuries and long periods of inactivity.
However, the 33-year-old is reportedly on the verge of a return to competitive football, with French outlet L’Équipe revealing that he will begin training with FC Metz from Tuesday.
This move presents Sarr with an opportunity to reunite with his former club and prove his fitness in hopes of earning a contract.
Sarr’s time in Munich was far from ideal. Since joining Bayern from Olympique Marseille in October 2020 for €8 million, he made just 33 competitive appearances in four years.
A serious cruciate ligament injury further derailed his progress, sidelining him for an extended period. His last competitive outing came on November 11, 2023, against Heidenheim.
Now, with Metz battling for survival in Ligue 1, the newly promoted side could provide the perfect stage for Sarr’s resurgence.
Should he impress during his trial period, a return to top-flight football could be just around the corner for the Senegal international.
