Pisa SC Make Move for Morocco U23 champion Redouane Halhal

Pisa have tabled a €3.5m offer for Moroccan defender Redouane Halhal, with negotiations now underway as the Serie A newcomers push to secure his signature before the close of the transfer window.

The 22-year-old, a key figure in Morocco’s triumphant 2023 Africa U23 Cup of Nations campaign, has made an immediate impact at Belgian side Mechelen since his arrival this summer.

He has started all five league matches so far, cementing his place in the team and attracting growing interest from abroad.

According to Moroccan outlet Soccer212, Pisa, coached by Alberto Gilardino, have formally approached Mechelen with a bid of €3.5m and are simultaneously in talks with the player’s representatives over personal terms.

The move would mark Halhal’s first experience in Italy’s top flight, offering him the chance to continue his rapid rise on a bigger stage.

Halhal’s career has been on a steady upward trajectory.

Initially developed at Montpellier before spending time in Atlético de Madrid’s youth system, he joined Mechelen on a free transfer last summer.

To accelerate his development, he was immediately loaned to the Dutch second division, where he impressed with consistent performances for the 2023/24 season.

During his loan spell in the Eerste Divisie, the versatile defender featured in 32 of 35 league matches, starting 30 of them and underlining his durability and reliability.

He capped off his breakthrough campaign by scoring his first professional goal in October 2024 during a 1-1 draw against Ajax’s under-21 side.

Capable of operating both centrally and in wide defensive roles, Halhal’s adaptability has made him a valuable asset, with his current form in Belgium reinforcing his reputation as one of Morocco’s brightest young prospects.

For Pisa, who are seeking to strengthen defensively following their promotion, Halhal represents a long-term investment and a player with international pedigree.

His role in Morocco’s U23 continental triumph showcased not only his technical qualities but also his ability to perform under pressure at the highest level of youth competition in Africa.

Mechelen now face a decision in the final stretch of the window: retain a player who has quickly become integral to their plans, or cash in on a sizeable offer for a footballer they acquired at no cost just months ago.

With contract talks reportedly advancing, the coming days could determine whether Halhal continues his progress in Belgium or begins a new chapter in Italy’s Serie A.
