Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq set for January exit from Real Sociedad amid growing interest

Nigerian forward Umar Sadiq could leave Real Sociedad in January as doubts grow about his long-term future with the Spanish club.

The 28-year-old striker, who joined Sociedad with high expectations, has struggled for regular playing time this season.

His contract runs until 2028, but reports suggest he may not stay that long.

Football journalist Ekrem Konur reports that several La Liga clubs are monitoring the situation closely.

Sevilla FC, Valencia, Getafe and Elche have shown interest in signing the Nigerian international when the winter transfer window opens.

Sadiq’s lack of minutes and his significant wage appear to be key reasons behind Sociedad’s willingness to negotiate a move. Despite being fit, the striker has featured in only two La Liga matches this season, averaging just 14 minutes per game.

The limited involvement has left Sadiq frustrated, as he seeks a club where he can play consistently and regain his sharpness in front of goal.

His situation has caught the attention of several mid-table Spanish sides looking to strengthen their attack.

Elche, in particular, have been linked strongly with a potential move. The club sees Sadiq as a proven top-flight forward capable of improving their goal-scoring options for the second half of the season.

At 28, the Nigerian international still carries notable market value. Transfer analysts estimate his worth at around €5 million, while his annual salary of €1.2 million could be a factor in Sociedad’s decision to offload him.

Real Sociedad have not publicly confirmed any negotiations but remain open to offers that suit both the club and the player.

Manager Imanol Alguacil continues to prefer other attacking options, leaving Sadiq low in the pecking order.

Former Nigerian international Garba Lawal has voiced support for Sadiq’s decision to seek new opportunities. Lawal believes a move would help the striker rediscover his confidence and rhythm ahead of crucial international fixtures next year.

Sadiq joined Real Sociedad in 2022 but has struggled to replicate the form that made him a standout performer during his time at Almería. Injuries and competition for places have limited his impact in the Basque side’s attack.

With Sociedad preparing for their next league clash against Sevilla FC in the 10th round of the Spanish season, Sadiq’s future continues to dominate discussions among fans and media.

A January exit now appears the most realistic solution for all parties involved. Whether he joins one of his La Liga suitors or looks abroad remains to be seen, but Sadiq’s time in San Sebastián seems close to ending.
