Nigeria forward Umar Sadiq ends scoring drought for Real Sociedad
Nigeria international Umar Sadiq has ended his 228-day scoring drought for Real Sociedad in their Copa del Rey clash against Reus FC on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old attacker made substitute appearance as Real Sociedad cruised to a 2-0 victory over their opponent, ensuring their qualification to the next round of the Cup competition.
Sadiq was introduced in the second half and made an instant impact, setting up Mikel Goti for the opener in the 49th minute before scoring from the spot to seal victory for the La Liga outfit.
The goal was Sadiq’s first in 228 days, with his last coming on April 19 during his loan spell at Valencia. After a tough start to the season and a failed summer move, the performance was a much-needed boost.
Having ended his goal drought at the club, the Nigerian attacker will be hoping to earn regular playing time at the club.
Sadiq has been limited to just five appearances across competitions for Real Sociedad, scoring one goals and providing an assist across the period.
The 28-year-old striker joined Real Sociedad in summer 2022, with his current contract expiring in summer 2028.
