Nigeria forward Tolu Arokodare laments over Wolves’ poor defensive display in defeat against Arsenal

Nigeria international Tolu Arokodare has expressed his disappointment following Wolverhampton Wanderers’ 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in the English Premier League.

Arokodare, who was dropped from the Nigeria squad for the AFCON 2025 was called into action as his outfit painfully fell short to the Gunners in the clash, held at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

The Nigerian international appeared to have salvaged a crucial point for Wolves when he found the net in the 90th minute, opening his Premier League goal account in dramatic fashion.

His late equalizer came at a time when Wolves desperately needed a positive result to lift them from the bottom of the table.

But Arsenal had the final say. In stoppage time, Bukayo Saka forced an own goal, the second of the match, to hand the league leaders all three points and condemn Wolves to yet another narrow defeat.

Reacting after the game in an interview with TNT Sports, Arokodare admitted Wolves were unlucky not to come away with at least a draw, while also acknowledging the team’s ongoing struggles with late-game concentration.

“It is not the first time we conceded in the last minute. It’s something that we have to work on – staying focused to the last whistle – very unlucky for us. Good goal from them, and I would say it was a little bit of poor defending from us.”

The result underlines Wolves’ difficult start to the season. They are still searching for their first league win and currently sit at the foot of the Premier League standings with just two points.
