Morocco midfielder Azzedine Ounahi set to join Girona on a permanent deal
Morocco international Azzedine Ounahi is on the verge of completing a permanent transfer to Spanish side Girona from Olympique de Marseille.
The 25-year-old midfielder has already agreed personal terms with Girona, with the deal now awaiting final approval from Marseille.
Ounahi impressed Girona during a successful loan spell at Panathinaikos, where he scored five goals and provided seven assists in 37 appearances.
His performances earned him the club’s Player of the Season award and a place in the Greek league’s Team of the Year.
Girona have tabled an €8 million offer, matching Marseille’s original asking price. The French club had briefly increased their valuation to €12 million before reverting to their initial figure.
Ounahi, who rose to global prominence during Morocco’s historic run to the 2022 World Cup semi-finals, joined Marseille from Angers in January 2023.
However, his spell in Ligue 1 was hampered by injuries and inconsistent form.
Marseille have already omitted Ounahi from their pre-season squad, alongside Cameroon duo Faris Moumbagna and Simon Ngapandouetnbu, and Ivory Coast’s Bamo Meïté, as they prepare for a squad overhaul.
