Moroccan coach Jamal Sellami has etched his name into Jordanian football history, guiding the senior men’s national team to their first-ever qualification for the FIFA World Cup.

Jordan booked their place at the 2026 tournament with a commanding 3-0 win over Oman in the Asian qualifiers on Thursday night.

Forward Ali Alouan was the star of the show, netting a sensational hat-trick to seal the landmark victory.

With this result, Jordan sits atop Group B with 16 points, level with South Korea but ahead on goal difference.

Iraq, once a close rival in the standings, dropped to third with 12 points after falling to South Korea—a result that ensured Jordan’s qualification with one match to spare.

The achievement marks a watershed moment for the “Nashama,” as the team makes its debut on football’s biggest stage.

Coach Sellami has earned widespread praise for his tactical acumen and calm leadership throughout the qualifying campaign. Under his guidance, Jordan have balanced discipline and flair, consistently outperforming expectations.

Their performance against Oman highlighted both individual brilliance and collective cohesion, with the team shutting down any chance of a comeback from their opponents.

Jordan becomes the 10th nation to secure a spot at the expanded 2026 World Cup, joining hosts Canada, Mexico, and the United States, along with Iran, Japan, Uzbekistan, South Korea, Argentina, and New Zealand.

Remarkably, Jordan is the only Arab country to have confirmed qualification at this stage of the competition.
