Marseille defender Moussa Niakhaté tips Senegal as favourites to win AFCON 2025

Marseille defender Moussa Niakhaté has tipped Senegal as the favourite to annex the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament to be staged in Morocco.

The 35^th edition of the continental showpiece has been scheduled to take place in the North Africa country, with 24 countries set to battle out for the covetous trophy.

Niakhaté, who is expected to make the Senegal squad for the tournament is already looking ahead to the challenges awaiting the Taranga Lions.

For Niakhaté, the AFCON is much more than a tournament; insisting it is an opportunity to confirm his central role and help his country aim for the title.

“And in this same season, there’s the AFCON where we are favorites. There’s also the World Cup where we’ve participated for the last three editions”

Determined and clear-sighted about the responsibilities weighing on the Lions, he intends to play a key role in leading Senegal to victory, combining experience, leadership, and motivation for the continental competition.

Meanwhile, the defender has set an ambitious target of helping Marseille achieve great things this season.

“This season is the season of a lifetime: we can aspire to great things in the league, we can win the Europa League” he said.
