Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma is under scrutiny following the release of a controversial video that could put his future at the club at risk, just weeks before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The Malian captain is facing one of the most challenging periods of his career, both on and off the field.
The video, published by The Sun, allegedly shows Bissouma inhaling nitrous oxide—commonly known as “laughing gas”—at a party on November 3rd.
A woman reportedly filmed the footage, which has prompted Tottenham to open an internal investigation. A club spokesperson confirmed, “This matter will be dealt with internally. We are investigating the events.”
Bissouma’s situation is complicated by his disciplinary history. In August 2024, he was caught inhaling nitrous oxide using a balloon and publicly apologized, calling it a “serious lapse in judgment.”
He emphasized at the time that he takes his professional responsibilities and role as a role model seriously.
The repeated incidents raise serious questions about his conduct, as the use of nitrous oxide is illegal in the United Kingdom and can carry a prison sentence of up to two years.
The midfielder’s on-field struggles compound the issue. He has yet to feature in a Premier League match this season, sidelined by a combination of injuries—including a sprained ankle in October—and previous disciplinary issues, such as repeated lateness to training that kept him out of the European Super Cup last August.
Despite these challenges, Bissouma is expected to be fit in time for Mali’s 2025 AFCON campaign, running from December 21 to January 18.
Tottenham now faces a difficult decision: whether to maintain their trust in a player with undeniable talent or impose severe sanctions, potentially including dismissal for gross misconduct.
