Super Eagles legend Jay-Jay Okocha has reacted to news about his desire to run for the position of President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).

Okocha has been in the news in the last 12 hours, with several online portals reporting on social media that the celebrated football icon has decided to run for the NFF Presidency in the next election.

In a post on Instagram to set the record straight, Okocha has described the news as false.

According to him, he has not spoken to anyone or said anywhere that he wants to become NFF President.

“Hello everyone, I just want to use this opportunity to say that the news and post that have been circulating is false, I have not said or spoken to anyone about Nigerian football or any interest on becoming NFF president, I’m currently in Kigali attending SPORTSBIZAFRICA, so I’m pleading with the people spreading false information to stop,” he said.

Okocha added, “I appreciate my people and understand the frustration we’re going through, but be rest assured that better days are ahead, let’s keep believing, I know that is it not easy but we are all in it together, God bless and please let’s stay strong.”

Following Nigeria’s draw with South Africa in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, many believe Nigeria’s football needs a change in leadership.

It is on the back of this that Okocha has been linked with the possibility of becoming the next NFF President.
