Ivory Coast midfielder and AFCON 2015 winner Ismael Diomande announces retirement

Former Ivory Coast midfielder Ismael Diomande has officially announced his retirement from professional football at age 33.

Diomande enjoyed a brilliant football career, playing an instrumental role in the Elephants 2015 African Cup of Nations success. The 33-year-old’s decision marks the end of a rich career spanning approximately 15-years.

The midfielder began his career with Mimosifcom Academy in Abidjan before departing for the West African country for greener pastures.

He commence his European adventure on a good note, helping Saint-Étienne to secure the Coupe de la Ligue title. He also had a stint with fellow French outfit, Caen, before moving abroad to Turkey and Romania.

The midfielder struggled to find himself a club since July 2024, prompting his retirement. Despite calling it a quit, Diomande has vowed not to leave the game entirely as he eye other roles.

“I will never leave the world of football because football has given me everything,” declared Ismaël Diomandé.

Diomandé leaves behind a significant legacy for Ivorian football. His contribution during the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations will remain etched in the memories of fans.
