Ivorian winger Jérémie Boga left traumatised after violent incident involving Nice supporters

Jérémie Boga is recovering in shock after being violently confronted by a group of supporters upon OGC Nice’s return from Lorient on Sunday.

The 28-year-old winger, who has featured in 13 league matches this season, was targeted as he stepped off the team bus, in what has been described as a deeply disturbing episode for the club.

According to RMC Sport, a group estimated at between five and ten individuals approached and physically assaulted Boga, as well as forward Terem Moffi and sporting director Florian Maurice.

The situation unfolded rapidly and left several members of the travelling party shaken.

A close associate of the Ivorian international said the player struggled to comprehend the aggression directed at him.

He was hit all over his body and tried to protect himself as best he could before being rescued by a teammate. It’s the first time he’s experienced such a situation, the source explained.

Boga has since been signed off for five days due to the effects of the incident, which has left him both physically and emotionally unsettled.

Those around him say the experience has profoundly altered his view of his future at the club, with the winger now unwilling to continue his spell on the Côte d’Azur.

The confrontation came at a turbulent moment for Nice, who have endured a difficult run of results and currently face intense scrutiny from sections of their support.

However, the nature of the attack has been strongly condemned by figures close to the squad, who insist that frustration over form can never justify direct aggression towards players or staff.

For Boga, the priority in the coming days will be recovery, with his entourage emphasising the need for the player to protect his wellbeing as he processes what happened.

The club has yet to issue a detailed public statement, but internal discussions are expected as the situation develops.

The fallout from the incident is likely to have significant repercussions both for the player’s future and for a club now forced to confront a serious breach in the relationship between a minority of supporters and the first team.
