Youcef Belaili will miss Algeria’s final fixture in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign after being sidelined with a muscle injury, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) confirmed on Monday.

The forward, who has been a key figure in the Greens’ qualification journey, will be unavailable for Tuesday’s encounter against Uganda.

According to the federation, the 32-year-old sustained a muscle strain that requires rest and treatment, ruling him out of the squad’s concluding match.

The Algerian Football Federation announces that Youcef Belaili will not take part in the national team’s final match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers due to a muscle injury, read the official statement. The player will return to his club, Espérance Sportive de Tunis, to undergo rehabilitation and prepare for the upcoming fixtures.

Belaili’s absence will be felt despite Algeria already securing their qualification for the 2026 tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

His experience and creativity have been instrumental in the team’s successful campaign under head coach Vladimir Petkovic, contributing both goals and assists across key matches.

Having ensured their place among the 48 participating nations, Petkovic’s side will look to maintain momentum in Kampala, with the match serving as a final tune-up before shifting focus to preparations for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The coach is expected to give opportunities to younger players, with several fringe members of the squad pushing for selection.

Belaili’s return to Espérance Sportive de Tunis will now allow him to recover in familiar surroundings.

The Tunisian giants are preparing for a demanding domestic and continental schedule, and the winger’s fitness will be closely monitored by both club and country medical teams.

Known for his flair, technique, and decisive play in the final third, Belaili remains one of Algeria’s most influential figures.

His return to full fitness will be crucial for Espérance’s ambitions in the CAF Champions League as well as Algeria’s long-term international plans heading into the World Cup.

With qualification already secured, Algeria’s final group-stage encounter against Uganda will be more about consolidating rhythm than result — though the absence of one of their brightest attacking talents adds a subdued note to their otherwise triumphant campaign.
