Guinea: Senegalese Amara Traoré to Become Future Coach?
Amara Traoré Eyes Guinea National Team Job
Senegalese coach Amara Traoré has officially thrown his hat into the ring to become the next head coach of the Guinea national team, following the departure of Michel Dussuyer, who was dismissed after the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
In an interview, Traoré emphasized his deep familiarity with Guinean football, citing his two-year experience managing clubs in the country.
“This isn’t the first time I’ve come to Guinea. It’s a country and a football style that attract me,” he explained. “I think this generation needs continuity in its progression… I want to bring my personal touch and help take Guinea to the roof of African football.”
Traoré believes his previous work in Guinea and his broader experience — including playing in Europe, participating in a World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations, and managing the Senegal national team — give him an edge over other candidates.
“I know the fans, the managers, and the interior of the country. I understand the Guinean people’s expectations. That’s an advantage that will help us optimize the performance of this team.”
He even joked about his past encounter with Guinea as Senegal’s assistant coach in 2006:
“I remember we eliminated Guinea 3-2 (laughs),” referencing a memorable Africa Cup of Nations match.
With his mix of regional knowledge and international pedigree, Traoré presents himself as a strong contender to lead the Syli National into a new era.
