Europa League: Nigeria’s Kelechi Iheanacho scores to earn a point for Celtic in draw against Red Star Belgrade

In-form Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho scored a crucial goal for Celtic on Wednesday night, earning a point for the side in their Europa League clash against Red Star Belgrade.

The Super Eagles attacker, who has now contributed in three consecutive games since joining the Scottish champions, came off the bench to fire Brendan Rodgers’ men into the lead.

Latching onto a pass from Benjamin Nygren, Iheanacho showed his trademark composure with a clinical finish into the top corner early in the second half.

Red Star, however, hit back just 10 minutes later. Nigerian defender Franklin Uchenna flicked on a corner to Marko Arnautovic, who made no mistake as he powered his effort beyond Kasper Schmeichel to restore parity.

Celtic had dominated possession for long spells but struggled to create clear openings before Iheanacho’s introduction. The Nigerian almost snatched a winner in the 72nd minute, only to be denied by goalkeeper Matheus.

The result keeps both sides unbeaten in their last five matches. Celtic will now shift focus to their weekend Scottish Premiership clash with Hibernian, while Red Star continue their domestic campaign against FK Radnicki.
