CHAN 2024: ‘Our future remains bright’ – Senegal coach Souleymane Diallo insists after defeat to Morocco
The head coach of Senegal, Souleymane Diallo, has predicted great things for the players of his team despite failing to reach the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) final.
The coach and his team faced off with Morocco on Tuesday in the semi-final of the CHAN tournament.
After a 1-1 draw at the end of extra time, Morocco showed nerves of steel to beat Senegal 5-4 on penalties to reach the final.
Speaking in his post-match interview, Coach Souleymane Diallo expressed pride despite the defeat.
“This is a young generation writing its first chapter. They played with courage and discipline. Penalties are always cruel, but our future remains bright,” the coach said as quoted on CAFOnline.
On his part, Morocco head coach Tarik Sektioui expressed his desire to lead his side to clinch the trophy at the end of the tournament.
“It was a tough match against the defending champions, but the players showed composure in the key moments. We have fought hard to reach this stage, and now we want to win the trophy again,” coach Tarik Sektioui said after the win against Senegal.
The final of the CHAN 2024 between Morocco and Madagascar will be played in Nairobi on Saturday at the Moi Sports Centre, Kasarani.
