Carlos Queiroz emerges as potential returnee to coach Egypt's national team

Carlos Queiroz has closed the door on Al Ahly after formally declining the chance to lead the Cairo giants.

The experienced Portuguese coach informed the club’s board of his decision, leaving officials scrambling for solutions at a delicate moment.

Emad El Nahhas remains in charge as interim coach, stepping in after Spanish manager José Riveiro was dismissed due to poor results. Fans had hoped Queiroz would bring his tactical touch and international pedigree, but the veteran coach chose another path.

Kooora learned from a source that Queiroz has joined a list of Portuguese managers, including Paulo Bento and Rui Vitoria, who have refused to take the job. The club now finds itself in a growing struggle to secure a suitable foreign coach.

“Queiroz is committed to his experience with the Oman national team to participate in the 2026 World Cup qualifying playoffs, in addition to his agreement to coach a national team in the near future,” the source said.

“After Carlos Queiroz’s apology, Al-Ahly is facing a real crisis regarding the contracting of a new foreign coach in the coming period.”
