Canadian-born Algerian Mohamed Farsi delivers another assist despite Columbus Crew defeat in Charlotte

Mohamed Farsi continued his impressive attacking contributions for Columbus Crew with a well-crafted assist during their 3-2 defeat to Charlotte FC in Major League Soccer.

In the 15th minute of the match at Bank of America Stadium, Farsi, operating from his familiar right flank, broke forward with purpose.

After being released by a teammate, the Canadian-born Algerian delivered a precise, curling cross into the box.

The ball met the head of Nigerian forward Ibrahim Aliyu, who directed it past the Charlotte goalkeeper to give Columbus an early lead.

Farsi’s vision and execution highlighted once again why he has become such a valuable offensive outlet for Columbus.

His overlapping runs and accuracy in the final third have been a recurring theme this season.

Despite the bright start, the Crew were unable to maintain their advantage.

Charlotte responded with three goals of their own, turning the tide in front of their home supporters.

Although Columbus pulled one back late in the game, it was not enough to rescue a point, with the hosts holding on for a 3-2 victory.

Farsi remained one of the standout performers for his side, creating nearly half a dozen key passes throughout the match.

His attacking drive from defence added another dynamic layer to Columbus’s build-up play, even as the team struggled to find a finishing edge.

The assist was Farsi’s third of the 2024 MLS season, coming in his 13th appearance.

The 24-year-old, who narrowly missed scoring in last week’s clash against FC Cincinnati after striking the post, continues to grow in influence on the pitch.

Born in Montreal but representing Algeria internationally, Farsi’s technical quality and relentless work rate have earned him a central role in Wilfried Nancy’s tactical setup.

Whether creating chances or helping transition the play from back to front, Farsi has shown consistency in both attacking intent and defensive discipline.

While the result in Charlotte leaves Columbus with work to do in tightening up their defensive structure, Farsi’s individual performance was once again a reminder of the quality he brings on the right side.

As the season progresses, his contributions could prove decisive in pushing the Crew further up the Eastern Conference standings.
