Ireland international of Nigerian descent Andrew Omobamidele is set to spend time on the sidelines following an injury setback at the weekend.

The 23-year-old defender was subbed off before the half hour mark after succumbing to an ankle injury during his outfit clash against Nantes in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday.

The rock-solid centre-back was replace by Valentin Barco in the 41st-minute as his outfit went ahead to secure a narrow win over their opponent on home turf.

After the game, Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior confirmed the defender sustained ankle injury and is expected to undergo scans to determine the extent of the injury.

Omobamidele spent the second half of last season on loan at Strasbourg from Nottingham Forest before making the move permanent this summer.

He has previously struggled with injury issues, including since arriving in Alsace. He suffered an ankle injury notably last season, which kept him sidelined for two months.

Having suffered a fresh injury setback, the defender was visibly emotional as he was forced to make his exit.
