Benin Suffers Double Blow Ahead of Algeria Friendly: Gestede and Sessegnon Injured

Benin’s celebrations after their 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast were quickly dampened by injuries to two key players.

Rudy Gestede, making his return to the national team after three years, suffered a muscle strain on Tuesday and missed the Ivory Coast match. He has now left the squad to undergo treatment at Aston Villa.

The bigger blow comes with captain Stéphane Sessegnon, who scored the winning penalty against the Elephants. He injured his ankle during the game and will miss the upcoming match against Algeria, returning to his club in Turkey for recovery.

Benin is set to face the African champions Algeria this Monday, September 9th, without two of their key players.
