Benfica manager Jose Mourinho pushing for Karim Benzema reunion

Benfica manager Jose Mourinho has expressed firm interest in France international of Algerian descent Karim Benzema ahead of the winter transfer window.

The seasoned tactician recently joined the Portuguese football heavyweight following his departure from Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

Mourinho was shown the exit door at Fenerbahce after failing to secure qualification to the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

Having secured a move to Benfica, Mourinho has set sights on capturing the signature of the experienced attacker, who is currently in the books of Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.

Mourinho has already tasked Benfica management to sign Benzema in the upcoming January window. The veteran gaffer wants a reunion, having worked with the attacker during his time with Real Madrid.

The former Real Madrid manager wants a player of Benzema’s calibre, who could bring tremendous value to the team and could elevate the club’s attacking potential to a new level.

At the moment, Benzema is under contract with Saudi giants Al-Ittihad, whom he joined as a free agent from Real Madrid in 2023.

Since joining Al-Ittihad, Benzema has played 64 matches, scoring 41 goals and providing 17 assists. His current contract runs until summer 2026.
