Algerian forward Camiel Neghli scores on opening day as Millwall defeat Norwich

Camiel Neghli marked his return to action with a goal as Millwall began their 2025–26 Championship campaign with a 2-1 away victory over Norwich City.

The 23-year-old Algerian forward, who started on the right wing, found the net in the 51st minute, giving Millwall the lead at Carrow Road.

It was a moment of significance for Neghli, whose previous season was disrupted by injury, limiting him to just four league appearances since his arrival in January.

His goal — a composed left-footed finish — came after a well-placed cross from teammate Enes Crama. Positioned on the left side of the penalty area, Neghli controlled the ball calmly before slotting it past the Norwich goalkeeper to open his account for the season.

Norwich responded shortly after with an equaliser, but Millwall would go on to claim all three points thanks to a late winner, securing an ideal start to their new campaign under head coach Joe Edwards.

Neghli’s performance stood out on the afternoon, both in terms of quality and intensity. He recorded four shots, two of which tested the keeper, and won four out of five individual duels — statistics that underlined his influence throughout the match. The winger was later named Man of the Match for his efforts.

After months of frustration due to injury setbacks, the goal and overall display will come as a welcome breakthrough for Neghli, who arrived in South London with high expectations. Seen as a player with strong international potential for Algeria, the former De Graafschap man had struggled to gain momentum last season due to fitness issues.

Now fully fit, Neghli appears ready to play a key role in Millwall’s attacking plans. His pace, directness, and technical skill on the wing offered a constant threat to the Norwich back line, and his composure in front of goal was a testament to the quality that initially brought him to England.

For Millwall, the win signals an encouraging start to what promises to be a highly competitive season in the Championship.

With ambitions of pushing for a place in the play-offs, the club will be hoping that Neghli’s resurgence can provide the kind of attacking spark they missed during his absence last term.

As for the Algerian forward, the focus will now be on building consistency and staying fit. With a strong start already under his belt, Neghli’s performance against Norwich will no doubt boost his confidence as he looks to solidify his place in the starting XI and possibly catch the eye of national team selectors.

Millwall return to action next weekend, where Neghli will aim to build on this early momentum and continue proving his worth in what could be a defining season for the young forward.
