Al-Ahly’s league cup opener postponed due to intercontinental cup schedule
The Egyptian Professional Clubs Association and Enppi Club have agreed to reschedule Al-Ahly’s opening match in the Egyptian League Cup due to a scheduling conflict with the team’s participation in the Intercontinental Cup in Qatar.
Al-Ahly, the reigning Egyptian Premier League champions, had requested the postponement, citing logistical challenges.
In a statement on their official X account, the club explained: “Al-Ahly sent a letter to the Professional Clubs Association detailing the extraordinary circumstances preventing the team from playing its first League Cup match against Enppi.
The clash arises from Al-Ahly’s preparation to face the winner of Pachuca (Mexico) and Botafogo (Brazil) in the Intercontinental Cup in Qatar.”
The club highlighted that their travel schedule conflicts with the originally scheduled League Cup fixture, set for Tuesday, December 10, just days before their Intercontinental Cup match on December 14.
Enppi, in a statement shared on their Facebook page, expressed their support for Al-Ahly despite initial concerns about maintaining the regulatory standards for local competitions.
“Although there are no specific provisions in the regulations necessitating a postponement in this instance, the club’s management has agreed to reschedule the match in support of Al-Ahly’s participation in the Intercontinental Cup,” the statement read.
The Egyptian Professional Clubs Association also acknowledged the issue, stating: “The association contacted Enppi, who graciously understood Al-Ahly’s situation.
It was decided to postpone the match to a later date that accommodates both teams while ensuring the rights of other clubs and upholding the principle of equal opportunities.”
This decision allows Al-Ahly to focus on representing Egyptian football on the international stage, a move that has been widely welcomed by fans and stakeholders in the local football community.
Al-Ahly is now set to face the winner of Pachuca and Botafogo in the Intercontinental Cup, a tournament that underscores the global reach and competitive spirit of the club.
