Al Ahly puts faith in midfield core over new signing

Al Ahly has called off talks with midfielder Agustin Mansour as the club shifts its focus to players already on the roster.

The Egyptian giants had explored the possibility of signing Mansour from Guarani, partly because his Palestinian citizenship would allow him to register as a local player.

However, a source inside the club told Kooora that negotiations have been put on hold after careful consideration by Spanish coach Jose Riveiro.

“We have already held talks with the player and his agent, but Spanish coach Jose Riveiro decided to freeze the negotiations, preferring to rely on the current players while keeping Malian international Aliou Dieng,” the source said.

Al Ahly’s decision comes as a clear vote of confidence in its existing midfield, which the source described as one of the strongest in the league.

“Al Ahly will enter the next season with a distinguished group of midfielders, who are considered among the best currently, reflecting the technical staff’s confidence in the current team’s capabilities,” the source added.
