Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly are progressing in talks in their pursuit of former Benfica trainer Bruno Lage for the vacant coaching job.

Al Ahly have been without a substantive trainer in the past few days following the sacking of Spanish trainer Jose Riveiro after a string of unimpressive result to the start of the 2025/26 football campaign.

Riveiro left Al Ahly after just four month spell at the club. Since the dismissal of former Orlando Pirates trainer, Emad El Nahhas has been serving as the interim coach of the African giants as the search for a new tactician continues.

Al Ahly appear to have set sights on the former Benfica and are keen on landing him for the vacant coaching job.

Meanwhile, the 49-year-old gaffer is said to be seriously considering the Al Ahly coaching job, with talks between both parties said to be progressing.

Lage left Benfica for the second time just a few weeks ago following an unimpressive result at the club. Previously, he managed Brazil’s Botafogo and England’s Wolverhampton Wanderers, gaining valuable experience both in Europe and abroad.
