AFCON 2025:Brice Ambina withdraws from Cameroon squad due to injury

Cameroon faces a setback ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco as Brice Ambina withdraws from the Indomitable Lions squad due to injury.

Coach David Pagou had called up Ambina to strengthen the team for the tournament, but the player confirmed his unavailability after sustaining a muscle strain.

Ambina addressed the situation publicly, explaining the decision and the reasons behind it.

“Due to a slight muscle strain, I unfortunately won’t be able to participate in this Africa Cup of Nations with the national team, despite my strong desire to be there,” Ambina stated.

“This decision, made in consultation with the medical and technical staff, aims to protect the interests of the group, so that the Lions can only count on players at 100% of their capacity.

I will now focus fully on my recovery, with the goal of returning very quickly and even stronger in January. Good luck to the Lions for the AFCON!”

Ambina’s withdrawal leaves a gap in Cameroon’s lineup, and Pagou now faces the task of adjusting his squad and tactics ahead of the tournament’s start.

The Indomitable Lions were counting on the midfielder’s presence to provide creativity and stability in the middle of the park, and his absence forces the coach to rely on alternatives from the squad.

Despite the setback, the team remains focused on preparation and finalising their strategy for the competition. Cameroon competes in a challenging group and aims to reach the later stages of AFCON 2025.

The player now prioritises rehabilitation and aims to return to full fitness as soon as possible, keeping the national team in his sights for future fixtures after the tournament.

Cameroon will continue its preparations in Morocco, hoping to maintain squad cohesion and resilience even with Ambina sidelined.

The Indomitable Lions remain determined to pursue their objectives and defend their national pride on the continental stage.
