CAF Champions League: TP Mazembe advances!

TP Mazembe have secured their place in the CAF Champions League group stage after holding Zesco United to a 1-1 draw in the second leg in Ndola, Zambia.

After doing the bare minimum with a 1-0 home win in the first leg, the Ravens knew they couldn’t afford another slip-up. Zesco started strongly, taking the lead through John Chingandu in the 13th minute, but Trésor Mputu restored parity for Mazembe in the 49th.

The Zambians then faced a daunting task, needing two more goals to overturn the tie. TP Mazembe even missed a chance to seal the game when Ben Malango saw his penalty saved in the 72nd minute.

The 1-1 draw was enough for the Lubumbashi side to advance, confirming their spot in the group stage of Africa’s premier club competition.
