Zaïre-Emery highlights Senegal challenge as he targets France World Cup spot

Warren Zaïre-Emery underlined the threat Senegal pose as he outlined his determination to earn a place in France’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder spoke after his team’s emphatic 5–0 win over Rennes, using the moment to reflect on France’s group and his ambition to convince Didier Deschamps he deserves a spot.

PSG dominated Rennes in their Ligue 1 meeting at the Parc des Princes, producing a fluid and ruthless display that left the visitors with no response.

After the final whistle, Zaïre-Emery paused for the media in the mixed zone and shifted the conversation from club football to the global stage.

He expressed pride in his performance but stressed that he needs a standout season to secure his place in Deschamps’ plans.

He emphasised his hunger to represent France and compete against elite opposition next summer in the United States.

Zaïre-Emery turned his attention to Senegal, led by his close friend Ibrahima Mbaye, and recognised the difficulty the Lions of Teranga bring to any major tournament.

He insisted that France will show complete respect for every opponent in their group.

“Every national team match brings its own level of difficulty, no matter who we face. I want to be part of this journey, so I must perform all season,” he said.

“We aim to win every game. Senegal, especially Mbaye’s team, challenge any opponent. Norway too. Every match at the World Cup demands total focus.”

The midfielder knows that his club form will hold the key to his international prospects.

With Luis Enrique relying on him more this season, consistency and maturity could push him closer to a World Cup call-up.

Zaïre-Emery now prepares for the months ahead with a clear objective: maintain his level, progress further, and ensure his performances leave Deschamps with no doubts.
