Senegalese coach Habib Beye addresses Stade Rennais dismissal rumours

Habib Beye has acknowledged that he came close to losing his job as head coach of Stade Rennais following the club’s recent poor run of form.

Speaking candidly at a press conference on Tuesday morning, the Senegalese manager revealed that discussions about his possible dismissal took place after Sunday’s heavy 4-1 defeat to Nice in Ligue 1.

Beye admitted that the club’s hierarchy had serious doubts about his future but explained that he managed to convince them he remained the right man for the position.

He stated that while the situation had reached a critical point, he still enjoys the confidence of his players and management.

“In our situation, yes, we have to win,” Beye said. “But in our line of work, I don’t view every game as an ultimatum.

The question about my dismissal came up at times. It stopped. People at Stade Rennais still believe in what we are trying to build.”

The Senegalese coach took time to express gratitude to the club’s leadership, particularly to owner François Pinault, for standing by him during a turbulent period.

“It’s a real privilege to coach Stade Rennais, a fantastic club,” Beye said. “I’m lucky to have an owner who is an extraordinary person. He showed me this again this morning, giving me his unwavering support since my arrival.”

The former Red Star manager did not hide the fact that internal discussions about his future had taken place.

He confirmed that a decision to part ways had been considered before the club ultimately decided to back him.

“We’re not going to pretend,” he admitted. “Everyone has seen the reports. It had to stop. It continues now for a very specific reason.

The management believes I have the energy and ability to lead this team to victory tomorrow.”

Despite the pressure, Beye remains focused on rebuilding confidence within the squad. His next challenge comes against Toulouse, a crucial match that could determine the trajectory of Rennes’ season.

The coach underlined that he and his players must show character and resilience to bounce back after the disappointing loss to Nice.

The upcoming fixture represents more than just three points—it stands as a test of Beye’s authority and the squad’s commitment to his vision.

The Senegalese tactician insists he remains determined to restore belief within the dressing room and deliver results that match the club’s ambitions.

As he continues to navigate one of the toughest moments of his managerial career, Beye’s honesty and composure have earned respect among Rennes supporters who hope to see the team rediscover its form under his leadership.
