'Seeing more Ghanaians in French Ligue 1 makes me proud' - Alidu Seidu

Ghana defender Alidu Seidu has expressed pride in the increasing number of Ghanaian footballers making their presence felt in France’s Ligue 1, describing it as a testament to the country’s growing football influence in Europe.

The Stade Rennais right-back, who has become a key figure in the French top flight, said it was gratifying to see his compatriots thriving at such a high level.

“This is very good for us because Ligue 1 is one of the biggest leagues in the world. Seeing more Ghanaians here makes me proud. It shows we have the quality to compete at the highest level,” Seidu told Flashscore.com.

This season, several Ghanaians are flying the national flag in Ligue 1, including Gideon Mensah (Auxerre), Salis Abdul Samed (Lens), Ernest Nuamah (Lyon), Mohammed Salisu (Monaco), and Nathaniel Adjei (Lorient).

Seidu’s remarks capture a broader sense of unity and pride among Ghanaian players abroad. His own rise from Ghana to becoming an established professional in France stands as a source of inspiration for the next generation of young footballers aiming to break into Europe’s elite leagues.

The growing Ghanaian presence in Ligue 1 not only offers invaluable European experience for the players but also strengthens the pool of talent available to the Black Stars, ultimately boosting the nation’s football development.
