‘I miss my family and I cry almost every day’ – Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie opens up on life at Brighton

Nigeria Super Falcons goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, has revealed that things have been difficult for her in England since joining Women’s Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion.

According to the highly-rated shot-stopper, she misses her family and cries almost every day because she feels lonely.

Nnadozie made the revelation during an episode of Nothing Off The Table, a Nike and Versus production that brings together some of football’s biggest names to discuss life on and off the pitch.

The show featured Lucy Bronze, Mariona Caldentey, Wieke Kaptein, and Nnadozie, who all shared personal stories about the struggles behind their careers.

Reflecting on her move, the Nigerian international said that adjusting to life without family, friends, or familiar surroundings has been tough. Her transfer to Brighton marked a new chapter after five years at Paris FC, but the transition has come with emotional strain.

“It’s not really easy. People think you just come on the pitch and play, but they don’t know the struggles behind it. Since I moved to Brighton, I cry almost every day because I feel lonely. I miss my family,” Nnadozie said.

She added, “Thanks to my teammates and coaches, they always check up on me to make sure I’m okay. The most important thing is having people who genuinely care about you. Going on preseason with the team also helped me a lot; the unity and togetherness really made a difference.”

Despite the challenges, the Super Falcons star remains committed to adapting to her new environment and pushing forward in her career.

She is regarded as one of the best women’s goalkeepers in the world.
