Axel Disasi still left out as Chelsea battle defensive problems

Axel Disasi’s name has been circulating around Chelsea conversations, but head coach Enzo Maresca has made it clear the French defender will not be called upon, even as the club faces a centre-back shortage.

With Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana and Tosin Adarabioyo sidelined for weeks, Chelsea’s backline looks stretched. Trevoh Chalobah remains the only experienced option available, while youngster Josh Acheampong is expected to provide cover. Supporters naturally wondered if Disasi, who has returned from his loan at Aston Villa, might be reintegrated.

Maresca’s response was firm when asked about the defender’s status. “There is not any information from the club to consider that, so at the moment he is not an option,” he said during a press briefing.

Disasi has been training separately from the squad, a sign his future lies away from Stamford Bridge. Unless there is a dramatic shift in approach, the Frenchman’s path back into the team appears blocked. The January transfer window is expected to be decisive, with Chelsea planning once more to secure him a new move.
