Otto Addo: Ghana must win to keep 2026 World Cup hopes alive

Ghana head coach Otto Addo has stated categorically that he is not scared of the possibility of being sacked.

The coach has come under heavy criticism since Thursday after Ghana drew 1-1 with Chad in Round 7 of the African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Since returning for his second stint in charge, Coach Otto Addo’s numbers have been modest. He has five wins, five draws, and five defeats in 15 matches. His team has scored 27 goals, conceded 18, and managed just four clean sheets, giving him a win rate of 33.3%.

Despite these statistics, the coach insists the Black Stars remain firmly on track to qualify for the World Cup.

“These statistics of my wins and losses are of no use. I’m not afraid of anything, not even getting sacked. We are still on top of Group I, so nothing has changed,” he said at his pre-match press conference on Sunday.

The coach also underlined the importance of focus and consistency, warning against any sense of complacency.

“Game by game, there will be no underrating of any team,” he added.

He hopes to lead Ghana to beat Mali on Monday, September 8. That crucial World Cup qualifier is scheduled to kick off at 7 pm at Accra Sports Stadium.
